intensely trivial

It’s Lent. People fast from a lot of things for Lent. Been thinking about my last post, which was a semi-serious question about whether I should abstain from controversy to center my mind on Jesus during this season, and this is the record stuck in my head. I think you should listen to it, too.

“Is this not the fast which I choose,
To loosen the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the bands of the yoke,
And to let the oppressed go free
And break every yoke?
“Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry
And bring the homeless poor into the house;
And when you see the naked, to cover him;
And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?”

(Isaiah 58:7-8, NASB)

And this:

“When a stranger resides with you in your land, you shall do him no wrong.
The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am the LORD your God.”

(Leviticus, 19:33-34, NASB)
